Uncertain How to Talk About Climate Change?

We know the earth's atmosphere is changing rapidly -- and not for the better. Is changing your light bulbs enough? No. Being able to talk to others is an important next step.

Are you uncertain how to talk about climate change?

If you are, you're not alone.

You may have read or heard about the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's reading that the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii measured nearly 400 parts per million of carbon dioxide. It hasn't been that concentrated in the atmosphere for 3 million years.

We know the earth's atmosphere is changing rapidly -- and not for the better -- due to the activities of human beings. But we also keep hearing about dissenting views. What are the facts?

On Saturday, you have an opportunity to learn more about what is happening to our planet and how to communicate your concern to others before it's too late for our children and grandchildren.

On Saturday morning, from 9 am to noon, in the chapel of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Oakton, Kevin Coyle, Vice President for Education and Training at the National Wildlife Federation, who Al Gore turned to to develop the training program for more than 3,000 activists to deliver the message from Inconvenient Truth to organizations and people across the U.S., will lead us on a 3-hour journey.

The program wil:

  • Cover Climate 101, the simple science basics
  • Review the current projections of the real consequences of climate change for the planet and people now and in the future
  • Discuss local DC-area implications, and
  • Discuss how to respond to common assertions by climate change skeptics.

You'll come away from the training with basic power points, resources, and ideas about how to communicate with neighbors, friends, and doubters about climate change along with steps to help us back away from the impending climate chaos.

Is changing your light bulbs enough? No, but being able to voice your concern in a coherent manner to others is an important next step.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
