South Lakes Still Needs a Seahawk

School mascot has big claws, er, shoes to fill.

Update, Wednesday, Sept. 21: Going into the third home game of the season, South Lakes is still without a mascot.

There have been a few inquries, but as of this week no firm volunteers to step into the suit and show school spirit, said principal Bruce Butler.

But there was something missing - South Lakes' mascot, the Seahawk.

That's because Kyle Norfleet, the student who wore the costume last year, is now a cheerleader. So the job of the mascot is open - and hopefully will be filled by the Sept. 9 home game against crosstown rival Herndon, said principal Bruce Butler.

What does it take to be the Seahawk? You've got to be a student with spirit, be a bit of ham, and be willing to get sweaty.

"It gets hot in that suit," said Butler. "When it is cold out, it is not so bad, but it it can get really, really hot in there this time of year."

Interested in the job? Listen for an announcement when school starts  or see Linda Jones, student activities director.
