Sunrise Valley Elementary School principal Elizabeth English has announced she will retire at the end of the 2012-13 school year.
English has been an educator since 1973 and with Fairfax County Public Schools for 25 years.
"It's been 40 years in education in the state of Virginia, 25 years in Fairfax County and 10 years as the principal of Sunrise Valley," English said when asked about her decision.
"I have very mixed feelings about it," she said. "It is what I have always done and I have loved every minute of it. On the other hand, I look forward to the next chapter."
There will be a meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the school library. Cluster 8 Superintendent Fabio Zuluaga will discuss with parents the selection process for hiring a new principal.
