Speak Out: Do Your Kids Walk to School?

Wednesday is International Walk to School Day. In Reston, that's true many days. Tell us how your kids get to school.

Wednesday is International Walk to School Day, and all Reston elementary schools have organized special events to encourage students to get to school on two feet.

International Walk to School Day, which was started by the Partnership for a Walkable America in 1997, says that walking is healthier for the kids, better for the environment, and improves the area by easing traffic and fostering the community with closer ties and increased safety.

Lots of kids in Reston walk to school most days as the community is connected by 55 miles of bike paths, as well as sidewalks around neighborhood schools.

Meanwhile, Vienna has challenged Reston to see which community can get the most kids walking to school Wednesday. We will keep you posted!

Tell us: Are your children participating in Walk to School Day? Do they usually walk, or is this a special event?
