South Lakes High School Class of 2011 Earns Record Scholarships

Seniors recognized at awards ceremony.

Class of 2011 received a total of $4,454,524 in scholarship money this year. 

“This is the largest amount of scholarship money awarded to any one graduating class in South Lakes High School’s history,” said Shannon Tully, Director of Student Services, at last week’s Senior Awards Ceremony.

In addition, Tully announced that the graduating class produced 95 International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidates, another record for South Lakes High School.

Faculty and staff members hosted the Senior Awards Ceremony last Thursday to recognize the many accomplishments of the graduating class. 

This event was the first of many planned over a course of a week to celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2011.

Graduation will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 16 in South Lakes' Wendell G. Byrd Gymnasium.  Guests must have tickets to attend the event. Thursday night is the school's All-Night Grad Party at the

Recognized at the awards ceremony:  all 95 International Baccalaureate candidates and the 155 students who consistently maintained a 3.5 grade point average through out their high school career.

Community members also attended the awards ceremony to present awards and scholarships to a number of graduating seniors.  The ceremony concluded with department awards and the PTSA’s Laptop for Success Scholarships.

Jennifer Mitchell Memorial Scholarship: Nabill Abdoulsalam, Hortance Houngbeke, Parwin Noor Ahmad, Tsiyon Gurmu, Tibyan Mohamed and Sherokee Werts

The LINKS Scholarship: Justin Williams and Collin Coker

Greater Reston Arts Center Scholarship: Sheree Chen and Belmin Rivera
