Rumberger Will Temporarily Lead SLHS

South Lakes Principal Retzer to take maternity leave, but former South County principal will step in temporarily.

South Lakes High School has hired former South County Secondary School Principal Dale Rumberger to serve as interim substitute principal beginning Jan. 22, when SLHS principal Kim Retzer goes on maternity leave, Fairfax County Public Schools Cluster 8 Superintendent Fabio Zuluaga announced.

Rumberger has been an educator since 1976. He was a teacher for 11 years, as well as Special Projects Teacher and Director Student Activities at Thomas Jefferson High School for Technology; Subschool Principal at Hayfield Secondary School; Principal at Chantilly High School; and Principal of Westfield High School.

He led Hayfield from 2004 until his retirement in 2008.

Retzer, a 1989 graduate of South Lakes, was a teacher and administrator at at South Lakes for 13 years and was an assistant principal at Westfield High School during the 2011-12 school year.

She was hired back to South Lakes last spring to replace longtime principal Bruce Butler, who retired after the 2011-12 school year.

Retzer told SLHS families in an email that she will be on leave for "several weeks."
