New Kiss-and-Ride Area For Sunrise Valley

Renovations now include designated driveway for drop-offs.

The renovation plan for has been revised to include a new location and structure for parking and kiss-and-ride.

The renovation costs were approved last year as part of the . 

The new site plan reflects moving the kiss-and-ride area — currently a crowded and awkward route — to the far side of the school, where there will be a designated driveway and turnaround area.

Other changes:

* An addition featuring 15 classrooms. This wing will contain the primary grades, Principal Elizabeth English said.

* The "annex," the school's temporary classroom structure (that has been in place for years), will be torn down.

* The school's pod structure will remain, but each pod will go from seven classrooms to five, and each classroom will have a door and windows. The school, built with an open floorplan in the late 1970s, currently has only one classroom with an actual door.

* The special education classrooms will be expanded.

* The library will move from the middle of the school to an addition near the school gym.

* An expanded fine arts section near the middle of the school, featuring additional music performance, classroom and instrument storage space; two art rooms, an art prep room and a dedicated kiln room.

The Planning Commission public hearing will discuss the overall renovation plan on May 31. at 8:15 p.m. Board of Supervisors public hearing is scheduled for June 5, 2012 at 3:30 p.m.
