National Achievement Honors for SLHS Siblings

Twins Kenyah and Kyannah Calhoun among 10 FCPS students to earn National Achievement Merit Awards.

South Lakes High School seniors Kenyah and Kyannah Calhoun are among 10 Fairfax County Public School students earning a 2013 National Achievement Merit Scholarship, FCPS announced.

The Achievement Scholarships are awarded to Black American high school seniors to be used for undergraduate university study.

Each of the students received $2,500 National Achievement Scholarships supported by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the NASP; Kenyah Calhoun's scholarship was also underwritten by the Xerox Foundation.

The National Achievement Scholarship program is a privately financed competition founded in 1964 specifically to honor scholastically talented Black American young people and to increase their opportunities for higher education.

The scholarships in this announcement are funded by 34 corporate organizations and professional associations and by NMSC.
