All Fairfax County public schools and offices will open on time on Wednesday, Oct. 31, the schools system announced Tuesday.
Individual schools that may have power outages will be reassessed in the morning, so check your inbox for Keep in Touch messages from your individual schools or check the FCPS website.
FCPS is asking parents to be patient as buses may need to work around road closures in some parts of the county and bus routes may be delayed.
Meanwhile, Halloween trick or treating is generally on in most neighborhoods in Fairfax County. Since trick or treat is not organized by any one jurisdiction, like a town government it is hard to make a universal decision, said Fairfax County spokeswoman Merni Fitzgerald.
For more information, and also check with your homeowners' association or town government (in places such as Vienna and Herndon).
Don't feel like participating? Turn your front lights off for some Halloween peace and quiet.
But staying closed on Tuesday was the right call. Our end of the county wasn't so hard hit but huge swaths of the southern and eastern side had major road closures, power lines down, and other situations that would have made Tuesday far more dangerous than it was worth. Given the predictions of major power outages, and FCPS' decision to terminate the hotline and rely exclusively on broadcast and internet announcements - which you have to have power to receive ----- they really couldn't have done anything else but to announce it early like they did.
