Edlin School Read-A-Thon Raises Money For Senegal School

Idea came from French class pen pals.

French students at Reston's Edlin School recently made a difference halfway across the world.

The students were pen pals with students their own age in Senegal to practice learning the language. Their counterparts wrote back in English so they too could practice a new language.

After writing for a few weeks, the students at Edlin learned the school in Senegal was overcrowded and administrators were trying to build some new classrooms but couldn't afford it.

Edlin students then held a read-a-thon to help their friends. They raised   $5,000 toward the construction effort, and visited the school in Africa to deliver the check.
