DC-Area Schools: Where Does SLHS Rank?
Annual Washington Post challenge index ranks difficulty of high schools locally and nationally.
The Washington Post has released its annual Challenge Index of high schools. For local schools in 2013, South Lakes comes in at No. 39. Herndon is No. 31.
Here is the formula used by education reporter Jay Mathews:
The index score is the number of college-level tests given at a school in 2012 divided by the number of graduates that year. Also noted are the percentage of students who come from families that qualify for lunch subsidies (Subs. lunch) and the percentage of graduates who passed at least one college-level test during their high school career, called equity and excellence, (E&E).

All Fairfax Couty Public Schools high schools made the national list of top 1,900 schools.
South Lakes was also No. 39 (and Herndon No. 31) locally a year ago.
