Cappies Honors High School Drama Students at Kennedy Center Gala

Which writers and what DC-area school took home awards at the Cappies Gala?

The Cappies, a non-profit organization that promotes high school theater and journalism by allowing students to attend shows at other high schools and write reviews, honored the year’s best Sunday.

The Cappies Gala at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., rounded up the 2013-2014 school year, presenting awards in 35 different categories to recipients.

According to a previous Patch story, West Potomac High School had the most nominations with 19 this year, topping the record for most nominations in Cappies history.

Students from 19 different schools in the DMV area took home awards from the Cappies.

Here are this year’s winners:

  • Marketing and Publicity: Gracie Denton, Jordan McCray, Ben Roberts, Peter Serle, West Potomac High School, Spamalot.
  • Sound: Kimberly Fonseca, Lydia Bennsky, Hayfield Secondary School, Marvin’s Room.

  • Sets: Natalie Jurkowski, Ella Moore, WPHS set crew, West Potomac High School, Spamalot.
  • Costumes: Lesya Melnychenko, Becky Lehner, West Potomac High School, Spamalot.
  • Make-up: Lecia Stock, Clare Smith, Nurbanu Dayaz, Charlotte Martin, Washington Lee High School, Macbeth.
