My son loves HWPS. The teachers are amazing. Their are 3 classroom teachers and Mrs. Male (the head teacher), they are all very loving and supportive of both the kids and the parents. The kids love that the parents help out. Each family helps every few weeks. Parent education meetings occur twice a year and are quite informative and useful. The field trips the classes take are both fun and educational. Some families move and still bring their younger children back to the school. And the price can't be beat. And some of their manipulatives are ones I used as a kid. The counting bears bring back childhood memories for me (I was not in the area as a child). We are grateful to be part of the HWPS Family.

Lake Anne Nursery Kindergarten (www.lankschool.com). This preschool and kindergarten school is warm, nurturing, stimulating, inviting, fun, playful, social, educational and MORE! The staff is exceptional and the family community is wonderful! This preschool was Reston's first, and has enjoyed reuiting with families who've sent multiple generations of students to learn and grow at LANK. The preschool program is an excellent place for children ages 2-5, and the Kindergarten program offers a ratio of 1 teacher for 8 students, and does SO MANY super learning things together! My children have cherished their time at LANK and we have made many lifelong family friends within the preschool community. HIGHLY recommend this great gem-of-a-school!

Great teachers! Conscious discipline helps the school family and the home family work well together. New facility for all classes.

Freetown Friends Preschool - an in-home preschool for 18 months - three years old. Loving, nurturing environment with great teachers, an excellent child-teacher ratio, a fantastic yard to play in and great activities.

United Christian Parish preschool is the best preschool in the Herndon/Reston area! They offer classes for ages 2-5 and have a ratio of 1:6 (two year olds) and 1:7 (preschool). They are an NAEYC accredited school and have a brand new facility. They implement a creative curriculum (teachingstrategies.com) and the Conscious Discipline program (consciousdiscipline.com). Not only will your child learn traditional preschool skills through play, they will also learn how to cope with their emotions and conflicts in a postive way. Real life skills! They have several parent classes throughout the year and many family events. The teachers are dedicated and loving and are given many, many opportunities to increase their own skills in the curriculum and Conscious Discipline. There is no other preschool like theirs! This is not just a preschool but a school family. Call for a tour today. You will not be disappointed.

Nationally Accredited NAEYC. Loving, warm, caring, thoughtful, fun, helpful staff. Excellent director. They use a curriculum that creates learning through play and they LOVE to play. They use a program called conscious discipline that empowers children to be a STAR! (Stop, Take a deep breath, And, Relax ) Can not say enough about this wonderful preschool.

United Christian parish preschool! Mrs. O'Rourke is remarkable!

Our family LOVES United Christian Parish Preschool! The children learn through play - and they learn not only age-appropriate pre-reading, math, science, etc., but emotional communication and self-awareness skills. A gorgeous new facility, responsive, communicative teachers, and a family-supportive environment make UCPP the neighborhood preschool I'd be happy to drive miles and miles to get to!

I second Freetown Friends! In our search for the perfect place for our not yet 2 year old at the time, we stumbled upon FF. It is such a great learning environment and watching my son grow over the past year has been amazing. I also love the wonderful art projects that get sent home every week:-)

The Tiny Explorers! (http://thetinyexplorers.com/) This at home, spanish immersion preschool has been a tremendous learning experience for two (soon to be three!) of my children. During a time in a young child's life when parent separation and socialization are both tricky and critical, Tiny Explorers more than exceeds expectations. The curriculum is developmentally and age appropriate, and beyond creative. Miss Blake and Miss Chris are a regular part of our dinnertime conversation, as are the new spanish words my children continued to surprise us with. Their understanding of not the limits of this age, rather the imagination and ability of this challenging age bracket has helped to mold some secure, independent and confident toddlers in my home. We have many choices for preschools closer, but will continue to send our children to this wonderful school. Bonnie Carter

Common Ground Child Care Center. It's the highest rated school/center in the county under the VSQI (Virginia Star Quality Initiative) program at four stars and has an incredible infant/toddler program. The PreK classroom is amazing!

What a relief to find a pre-school for my little ones that I fell comfortable with while I have a few hours to run errands! My two girls have both gone to Freetown and have had great experiences. Best school by far!!

Common Ground Child Care. Nurturing, caring, supportive and fun teachers and staff. It's a truly wonderful place.

We love Common Ground (http://www.commongroundchildcare.org/). We transitioned our kids there a couple years ago and it was one of the best decisions we've made. They are unique in that they have teachers that have been there for 10+ years which was a welcome change from the center we came from were the turnover was high. The teachers are very caring and our kids love it. My son just graduated PreK and is more than prepared to start kindergarten in the fall. Their summer program coming up which is full of fun activities.

Our 2 children started going to Common Grounds in December, and the experience has been wonderful!

Common Ground Child Care has been providing excellent childcare, pre-school, and programs for elementary students (before/after school care and summer camp) since 1972 (40 years!). The school has loving, tenured staff and robust programs for each age group (including field trips!). I attended as a child and it was the only place my husband and I would consider for our daughter. Our daughter (now 3) began in the infant room and has flourished emotionally, cognitively, and socially at CG. We have another child on the way and once again, Common Ground is the only place we trust to help him grow and develop.

I would love for everyone to know how great Tiny Eexplorers is!! My youngest child just finished at this gem of a school. Ms. Chris Callaway and Ms. Blake Kohn are fabulous leaders and teachers. They are intelligent, warm and motivated. We loved the Spanish/English program. The class room was warm, inviting and language rich for this multi-age classroom. My youngest daughter had the distinct privilege of attending Tiny Explorers. She loved every day and bounced out of bed to get to "Spanish" school. I am constantly amazed at her ability to use and recognize Spanish in the every day world. I Loved the social/ play based classroom and I felt it was open to all kinds of learners. I feel this is lacking in many pre school programs. We have been huge fans of LANK and I feel everyone knows what a great school LANK is! But Tiny Explorers is a school I would love for everyone to know about. My only complaint is that my two older kids did not get this great experience because it did not exist!

We love the nurturing, family environment at Common Ground Childcare Center. It's great that CG has been there 40 years, and many of the instructors have been there nearly as long. Our children love it there.

Common Ground Childcare Center has an excellent infant room. Both of my kids went there as infants. They took care of them according to their schedule. They slept when they were tired, they ate when they were hungry, and the teachers talked to them and played with them on the floor when they were awake just like I would have at home. They loved the kids and hugged them often. It felt like a family there. They were absolutely wonderful.

With a staff that has multiple teachers who have been there for more than 20 years each, what more is there to say? Wonderful place, wonderful people, you can't go wrong with Common Ground!
Brooke June 20, 2012 at 11:47 PM
Finding Freetown Friends was one of the best things to happen to my family. My daughter loves it so much that she will be attending the maximum amount of time that she can. And when my son is old enough, hopefully there will be room there for him too. Miss Shelley and Miss Christina provide the most warm and loving environment any 2 year old could hope for!
Chris Long June 21, 2012 at 06:41 AM
We also love Common Ground. All the teachers there great educators and really love the kids. When my kids are there, I'm totally confident they're with people who care about them and will nurture them. Both our boys had great preschool experiences and love the summer program there now.

Lake Anne Nursery Kindergarten is fantastic! The staff is the best and my kids have loved being a part of this school. The programs they have from Spanish to Gymnastics and Music amidst a curriculum that is packed with everything you'd want your preschooler to be introduced to is beyond impressive. The energy at this school is upbeat and fun, but also focused when it comes to the important topics they teach. LANK is a gem of a preschool in the Reston area!

We transitioned our 4 year old and 20 month old to Common Ground Childcare Center in November and we've been completely overjoyed with our decision. Our girls absolutely love it and so do we. CG embraced our family from day one and have given our girls love and support every day of the week.

Common Ground Childcare. My daughter grew up at Common Ground (she's going into 7th grade). The nuturing teachers are amazing and the diversity reflects all that is great about Reston.I was an extremely neurotic first time mom and the staff set me at ease. The environment feels like a family and support the teachers provide for the children and their families is excellent!

Our daughter started Freetown Friends right before she turned 2 years old. The home-based program has been a great transition into preschool. Miss Shelley and Miss Christina are amazing with the children. My daughter is always bringing home the cutest arts and crafts and is always singing new songs shes leaned. The field trips and summer camp are just a couple of the many great benefits!
