WaPo: Some County Employees Back on Payroll

Washington Post investigation shows nearly 100 Fairfax County employees collecting retirement, then returning to the payroll.

The Washington Post reports that 95 people returned to the Farfax County payroll for at least part of last year or longer after collecting retirement benefits. 

Some county officials say the retirees’ return and the Deferred Retirement Option Program, known as DROP, have benefited taxpayers and county workers alike. Others are not so sure and wonder whether DROP is part of a pension system that has grown too generous and whether the commonwealth can handle this in a down economy.
