Reston Association DRB Approves Brown's Chapel Lights

It's almost time for night baseball at Brown's Chapel Park.

Reston Association's Design Review Board on Tuesday approved a plan to install lights at Brown's Chapel Baseball Field No. 1.

While the field improvements were initially OKed and money ($282,000) allocated in the 2012-13 RA budget, the DRB had deferred making a final decision on the installation of lights.

The plan is to:

•Install six 60-foot high light poles, each with 3 1500W fixtures •Install service panel to back of concession stand, with exterior to match existing – insulated for sound if necessary •Install underground service from drop along Baron Cameron Avenue overhead line to concession stand •Install scoreboard

At the April 16 full Design Review Board meeting, the DRB deferred its decision on lighting field No. 1 and parking lot lights and requested RA do further study on those items.

The RA board voted last month to defer action on installing lights at two additional Brown's Chapel field.

RA has also postponed moving forward on parking lot lights and concession stand lights to develop a plan that better suits the park, its users and the neighbors.

Several homeowners in the Brown's Chapel and Lake Newport areas have complained that lights and noise will disturb them.
