Supervisors To OK Reston Transportation Improvements

Much of the $24.5 million will attempt to ease traffic near Wiehle Metro.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is expected to approve on Tuesday an agreement with VDOT that will bring $24.5 million in improvements to Reston.

Most of the improvements will be around the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station, which is slated to open in December.

Advocacy group Reston 2020 points out that most of the improvements were requested by the Reston Metrorail Station Access Group (RMAG) in 2008.

"In fact, the specific tasks are linked to the RMAG study identifiers," Reston 2020 writes on its blog.  "Obviously, none of the improvements will be in place when the station opens late this year.

About $6 million project funds are for an unidentified project on Town Center Parkway.  Funding for Soapstone Connector improvements is not in the package.

The improvements will happen over the next four years. To see a full list of improvements, click here.
