Reston National Fined for Gas Tank Violation

Owners of golf course paid $6,797 in EPA penalties.

RN Golf Management, the company that owns recently paid a nearly $7,000 fine or having a 1,000-gallon underground gasoline tank that was not in compliance wih Environmental Protection Agency Regulations.

According to EPA Documents, the EPA performed compliance inspection in May 2011 and found the underground storage tank, which was installed in 1999 and routinely used to store gasoline fuel.

The usage was found to be in violation of EPA and the Commonwealth of Virginia's underground storage tank regulations.

RN Golf Management signed a consent agreement and in March of 2012 paid a civil penalty of $6,797.

The EPA found that RN Golf Management did not take appropriate corrosion protection measures, which could result in leaking fuel, and did not properly monitor the tank.

It is not known if the tank is still in use.

The golf course owners are trying to determine whether the south Reston course is zoned residential or commerical. An advocacy group, has formed to fight redevelopment.

The Fairfax County Board of Zoning Appeals will hear the case on Oct. 24.
