Reston: Lots of Services, Not So Much Value

Reston Association's Community Survey gives snapshot of what Restonians think about RA and life here.

Reston Association's Community Survey revealed high marks for many quality of life question and a low grade for whether RA services were a good value for the amount of assessment dollars paid.

The RA board learned the results of the survey last week in a presentation from the Colorado-based National Research Center.

RA sent the questionnaires to 3,000 randomly selected households in January. It received responses from 826.

When residents were asked if they thought the value they get for the fees paid were a value, only 6 in 10 said "excellent" or "or good." This year's assessments were $590 per household.

"Only 60 percent are satisfied," said RA president Ken Knueven.  "That's embarrassing. Let's find out why [they feel that way]."
