Reston 2020: Defer Silver Line Decision

Advocacy group asks Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to wait until alternative funding sources are found.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is expected on Tuesday

Advocacy group Reston 2020 is asking the supervisors to "defer that decision until substantial additional financing becomes available that eases the huge burden on the 70,000 or so County users of the DTR."

In a letter to the BOS, Reston 2020 points out that Dulles Toll Road (DTR) users will pay up to 75 percent of the cost of Phase 2.

"That means DTR users will pay more than $17 billion in tolls to pay off revenue bonds MWAA must issue to cover the toll road construction cost. As forecast by CDM Smith in February (Figure 1 attached), that will require a nearly nine-fold increase in tolls over the next 36 years."

Reston 2020 says toll road users should pay no more than 25 percent of costs.
