RCC Focus Group Needs Citizen Input

Register Friday to participate in Monday meeting.

Reston Community Center is looking for residents to participate in a focus group Monday to discuss possibilities for the potential new recreation center at Baron Cameron Park.

There will be many chances to offer feedback. However, if you wish to participate Monday, RCC staff asks that you sign up ahead of time.

RSVP to RCCContact@fairfaxcounty.gov by 5 p.m. Friday, March 22, at 5:00 p.m. with your name, address and email.

Those who oppose the concept will be offered an opportunity at the beginning of the meeting to express their views, however, the purpose of the meeting following the comment period will be to "focus" on the topic described, RCC Executive Director Leila Gordon says.

Other upcoming RCC Board of Governors meetings available for public comment include:

April 1 at 8:00 p.m. - Regular Monthly Meeting of the Board

April 8 at 6:30 p.m. - Finance Committee meeting

May 6 at 6:30 p.m. - Long Range Planning Committee meeting and presentation of Brailsford & Dunlavey Report; Q/A and comments to follow

May 6 at 8:00 p.m. - Regular Monthly Meeting of the Board

If you are not able to attend meetings but wish to express your views, please send them with your name and address to RCCContact@fairfaxcounty.gov.

I am so glad we get to vote on this. The preliminary cost estimate of $35 to 50 million dollars is likely to escalate by the time construction has actually begun. How much will yearly operational costs be? And how much will the bond interest amount to before the bond is paid off? All will be paid for by Small Tax District 5.
There is no money to pay for the Soapstone extension: http://reston.patch.com/articles/where-will-soapstone-crossing-start-and-stop It is likely that the $100 to 150 million cost of that road will be passed on to Restonians. If the county uses a "service" district to pay for the Soapstone extension, the people of Reston who will be taxed to pay for it will have no vote. So I am very glad we get to vote on this new indoor rec center. It hardly matters that those opposed to this expenditure are not invited to participate in this focus group. Voting is all that matters. Kathy Kaplan

It does not matter who is bringing this item to the forefront: rules should not be adjusted everyRead More time it is convenient. I seem to remember someone who just had to resign because they no longer lived in Reston. Not having been privy to all the politics in town, any adult with a functioning brain should have known or been told by their expert real estate agent, that the property being purchased was not within Reston boundaries and thereby disqualifying them from office within the established rules.

Molly-you have hit it on the head! We shouldn't be starting down this slippery slope of ruleRead More changing for 1 person.I do not know this individual , but that is not the issue here.

If the RA Board approves this self serving move by another RA Board member then the board membersRead More who do so should be voted out of their roles the next time they run for election.
