Gallery: Putting Politics in the Front Yard

One Herndon yard decorated for the season - the election season, that is.

Neighbors in Herndon's Fox Mill have noticed a yard on Holkein Drive decorated for the season.

At first, with masks of "The Scream" and a few hanging skeletons, it appears to be decorated for Halloween. A closer look, though, reveals it is one man speaking out against President Barack Obama and in support of GOP candidate Mitt Romney.

"I am trying to make people aware of what's happened in the last four years," said Gerald C. Barnes of his yard decor.

Barnes said before he began this project, he let the neighbors know what he was up to. The display includes an area for "death panels under Obama," Barnes said.

"I said 'I am going to put up a display about the election,' " he said. "I said they might not like it, and I am sorry if you are offended. But I have to do this."

Barnes, a Vietnam veteran, said he was not all that political until Paul Ryan was chosen as Romney's running mate.

"I said 'there is hope for us!' " said Barnes, who has also spent time waving a flag on Fairfax County Parkway to show his support. "Paul Ryan is what we need to get the county back on track."
