Save the Date: Park Master Plan Meeting

Fairfax County Park Authority to start public planning process for Baron Cameron Park Master Plan.

The Fairfax County Park Authority will begin the public planning process to revise the master plan for Reston's Baron Cameron Park

A public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 at Buzz Aldrin Elementary School.

Baron Cameron Park is a 68-acre park owned and operated by the Park Authority.  The existing master plan for Baron Cameron Park was approved by the Park Authority Board in 1975 and subsequently amended in 2001.  The site was formerly owned by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors until the spring of 2012, when ownership was transferred to the Park Authority.

Earlier this year, the FCPA and Reston Community Center announced they are looking into a partnership to build and operate a new RCC facility that will most likely include a 50-meter indoor pool. RCC is working with consultants Brailsford & Dunlavey, as well as holding series of public meetings on the issue.

Baron Cameron Park is classified as a district park and has largely been developed according to the 1975 and 2001 approved master plans.

Existing features include nine rectangle fields, one diamond field with lights, a playground and picnic area, an off-leash dog park, 32 community garden plots, and parking, according to a news release from FCPA.

At the FCPA  meeting, staff will provide an overview of the Park Authority master plan revision process, the existing approved master plan, current site conditions and park uses, and information about the Reston Community Center’s interest in partnering with the Park Authority to build an the indoor recreational facility.

There will also be an opportunity for public comment and dialogue to identify community issues and gather input to help shape the revised master plan.  For more information, please visit the project website.

In addition to submitting comments at the May 7 meeting, comments may be mailed to Project Manager Jay Rauschenbach, Fairfax County Park Authority, Planning & Development Division, 12055 Government Center Parkway, Suite 421, Fairfax, VA 22035 or emailed to Parkmail@fairfaxcounty.gov.

After the public information meeting, the Park Authority says it will consider all public input that has been received and proceed to draft a revised master plan for Baron Cameron Park.  Once a draft revised plan is completed, the Park Authority will publish the plan for public review that will include a public comment meeting followed by a 30-day public comment period to gather further input.
