On the Docket: Deer Hunt, Adding Property and Budget Numbers

Here's what Reston Association's Board of Directors will be talking about at its meeting Thursday.

Reston Association's Board of Directors holds its regular meeting on Thursday. Here are some of the top items for discussion and action. Have something to discuss with the board? Public comment session begins at 6:15 p.m.

Deer Hunting on Buckthorn: RA will consider the deer hunting application request of Dan Grove, owner of the property at 1916 Buckthorn Lane.

RA granted Grove, whose entire family has been affected by Lyme disease, the rights to bowhunting deer on his property three years ago, and this motion would allow him to hunt through the 2016 season.

Grove says culling the deer population would help reduce the number of deer ticks on is property. The hunt is done in conjunction with a professional company, which Grove said took out two deer in 50 hours of hunting since 2010.

Action on Adding Chessington - Board members will move on whether to add At-Large member Donna Rostant's house to the association. Rostant recently moved from a home located in RA to 11101 Chessington, which is not in the Reston Association.

Under RA by-laws, a property can be added to the association.

Budget Talk - RA will have more discussion about the 2014-15 biennial budget. The board is considering taking a loan of up to $2.5 million to keep member assessments from climbing much higher. Read about that here.
