Nationals' Little League Tourney in Reston

Renovated Brown's Chapel field will be site of games in regional baseball event.

Reston will be the site of games during the Washington Nationals Memorial Day Baseball Tournament this weekend. More than 175 Little League teams around the region will take part in the action at various locations.

Twenty-four teams will play at fields, where there have been recent renovations at two of the three fields

The Reston Association Board of Directors approved the conversions of the fields, after the recommendation by the Parks and Planning Advisory Committee.  The total cost of the conversions was approximately $28,000.

The improvements included converting Browns Chapel field No. 3 from a 90-foot diamond to a 60-, 65- and 70-foot field, says Larry Butler, RA's Director of Parks and Recreation.

Similarly, field one was converted from a single 60-foot diamond to another 60-, 65- and 70-foot field.  This included extending the outfield and installing a higher fence to challenge longer hitters.

“This made the fields more useful, gave them more life and has really made the park a go to place for baseball in Reston,” Butler said.

The 2012 Washington Nationals Memorial Day Baseball Tournament begins on Friday, with opening ceremonies at Nationals Park.

The tournament will benefit the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's National Medical Center.
