MWAA Seeks Public Feedback About Metro Phase 2

Meetings Monday and Tuesday to show plans for Reston Parkway, Herndon Monroe and airport.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will hold a public meeting in Reston Monday to discuss and obtain comments about plans for Phase 2 of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.

The meeting is at the Sheraton Reston, 6 to 8 p.m.

Phase 1 is the extension that will run from East Fulls Church to Wiehle Avenue. That is slated to open in late 2013. Phase 2 is is the extension of the  line another 11.6 miles from Wiehle Avenue in Reston to Washington Dulles International Airport and on to Route 772 in Loudoun County.

New stations will be built at Reston Parkway, Herndon-Monroe, Route 28, Dulles International Airport, Route 606 and Route 772.

Preliminary Engineering (PE) is currently underway for Phase 2. This  will result in the preparation of a Design-Build construction solicitation for Phase 2. Completion of PE and preparation of the Design-Build solicitation is scheduled to be completed in 2011

The MWAA is seeking public comments through Oct. 2. Comments can be made on the Dulles Metro website.

Some issues likely to be discussed at the meeting, and as the issue goes forward: traffic around stations;  preservation of the wetlands near the Hernon-Monroe station; station design; parking and bike accessibility; and amount and design of new office, retail and residential construction around Metro stations.

There will be a second meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum in Sterling.

Additionally, there is another discussion about the Metro's impact on Reston Monday night. Reston Presents,  sponsored by Reston Association and Reston Community Center, will host a meeting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at RCC Lake Anne for community members to get answers to their questions about the Metro opening in Reston in 2013.
