Graves Selected as Reston Association Board Member

Longtime Restonian will fill director spot vacated in May.

Longtime Reston resident Ellen Graves was selected Thursday to fill the vacant Hunters Woods/Dogwood District seat on the Reston Association Board of Directors.

Graves, a 30-year Restonian, will serve the remainder of the current term, which ends in April 2014. 

Graves was one of five applicants who were interviewed by the RA board during its the meeting. She replaces Cheryl Beamer, who resigned last month.

Graves is active in many Reston civic organizations. Graves worked at IBM; served as the Executive Director of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women, Inc.; and most recently was Chief of Staff for Fairfax County Supervisor Cathy Hudgins. 

She is on the board of the for the Reston Historic Trust and Museum, sits on the Southgate Community Advisory Board and serves as a member of the planning committee for the Reston Multicultural Festival, among many other volunteer positions. She serves of the RA's Elections Committee, of which she formerly served as chair.

“Ms. Graves has illustrated her investment in Reston through her years of service to so many community-based organizations and her combination of non-profit and business organizational experience will benefit both the board and the members of Reston,” RA Board President, Ken Knueven said in a statement.

“We were incredibly fortunate to have so many talented and committed applicants apply to serve their community and know each of them will continue to provide strong leadership for the members of Reston Association,”

Graves will be sworn in at the start of the July 11 board meeting.
