Five Minutes With Eve Thompson

Three Reston Association Board of Directors seats are up for grabs this spring. All three candidates are running unopposed.

Voting opened Monday. Even though all three candidates for North Point, Lake Anne/Tall Oaks and At-Large Director are running unopposed, RA bylaws say an election still must take place and a quorum of 10 percent of eligible votes must be counted.

Meet Eve Thompson, who lives at Heron House at Lake Anne and runs the Saturday Crafters Market on Lake Anne Plaza. Thompson is a Realtor and former president of the Lake Anne Merchants Association.

She narrowly missed earning a spot as an At-Large Director in 2012.

What makes Reston special? Without a doubt it is the mix of urban and nature. The thoughtfulness of the design, the quality of the design.

If I had one thing you could single handedly change it would be  - Interesting question. If I could transform one thing it would be to create a stronger sense of place in each of the Village Centers. I would love to see each of the Village Centers become a haven of thriving Mom & Pop shops owned by people who live in the community.

Three things the board needs to do in the next three years:

1. I think we need to be in the lead on all of the redevelopment. I think that we should be articulating a vision that is beautiful, cohesive and demanding.

2. I think we need to manage and expand our assets so that we can meet the increased demand.

3. I think we need to ensure that all of the Reston based programs, both RA & RCC are doing everything they can to include as many as possible - from seniors to youth. The more connected and involved everyone in the community is the stronger the community will be.
