First Silver Line Train to Depart Wiehle-Reston East Station

Metro plans to release a new SmarTrip card on July 26 to commemorate the opening of the Silver Line.

On opening day of the Silver Line, July 26, the McLean, Tysons Corner, Greensboro and Spring Hill stations will all open to the public at 11:30 a.m. so that riders can enter the stations to take a look around and purchase fare media, according to metro officials.

The Wiehle-Reston East station will open shortly before noon July 26, following an opening ceremony with regional officials and a ribbon cutting. Space will be limited at those events.

The first Silver Line train will depart Wiehle-Reston East, bound for Largo Town Center, at noon.

For people who want to be on that first train, it is expected to depart Spring Hill at approximately 12:08 p.m., Greensboro at 12:10 p.m., Tysons Corner at 12:12 p.m. and McLean at 12:14 p.m., on its way to Arlington, the District of Columbia and out to Largo, Md.

You can get to the Tyson's Corner and McLean stations before the start of Silver Line passenger service on opening day, by Metrobus:
  • Routes 3T and 23A will serve the McLean station – with the 3T connecting riders from East Falls Church and West Falls Church to the new McLean station, and the 23A connecting riders from Crystal City Metrorail station to McLean.
  • Tysons Corner station will be served on opening day by Metrobus Routes 2T and 28A. Riders who want to get to Tysons Corner station can connect from Dunn Loring Metrorail station on the 2T bus, and from the King Street-Old Town station on the 28A.

The Fairfax Connector will provide additional bus connections to the new Silver Line stations, and the new 2,300-car parking garage at Wiehle-Reston East will be open. In addition, riders can access the stations on foot or bike. Check out the maps of the stations and surrounding areas to plan your route.

One week before the Silver Line’s opening, Fairfax County will host a ribbon cutting and transit fair at the Wiehle-Reston East North Entrance bus and parking facility — which includes a secure bike room, kiss & ride facility, and 10-bay bus terminal, in addition to parking.
