Chipotle Clears Another Step

Chipotle's South Lakes application approved by Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

Update, May 3: The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved Chipotle's application on May 1, clearing the way for the restaurant to proceed.

Update, April 18: The Fairfax County  Planning Commission recommended for approval Chipotle's application. The issue next goes to the Board of Supervisors.

Original story Jan. 11: Chipotle's quest to build a store at Reston's South Lakes Village Center took a quick step on Tuesday when the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved an expeditious review by the Department of Planning and Zoning. Also coming soon:  public hearings before the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors

Last month,

The restaurant, which has Reston locations on Sunset Hills Drive and at Reston Town Center, is planning to take over the space at 11160 South Lakes Dr. The spot was formerly occupied by Dinner Zen, the make-your-own meals place that closed last spring. It will be Chipotle's third Reston store.

All of my dreams... are suddenly coming true!

What is the issue that requires this extended review process?

CMG has been on a tear, 2009 the stock cost about $80 and largely ignored due to their association with McDonalds. On the off chance that I sound like a commie, but does the average employee of the grill have an opportunity to partake in the incredible fortune that the company has had? How is it that a large portion of their employees are riding their bikes to work? Is it a green company? Does anyone have time to look into this or do you just want your burrito to satisfy your daily intake of salt? Anyone ready to crew just to find out? Hmmm...

Of course the employees have a chance to partake in the company's fortunes... You just explained that it is a publicly-traded company. They can buy the stock, just like we all can(and wish we had).

I love Chipotle, but I'm really curious how convenient it's going to be for the shopping center as a whole. Not the easiest parking lot to navigate or park in currently.

Would love to have a Chipptle down the street from me but am not looking forward to even fewer parking spots available when the store is up and running.

It's very funny to me to see all the fuss over a new Chipolte--like it was some sort of 1500-calorie holy grail! Apparently, very few of you are willing to wait much longer sink your gums into the unhealthy ( and certainly non-authentic) food of this greasy shrine to the burrito.

Death by burritos! Guess I'll have to ride my own bike up there.

Keep the process moving, Fairfax County. We'd love to welcome Chipotle to South Lakes Plaza very soon, but I agree with the concerns about parking.

As opposed to most fast food locations, you can get a very healthy 500-calorie meal if you eliminate the tortilla, the rice and the dairy. The rest is vegetables and meat, lean meat if you choose. Add in rice, sour cream, cheese and a large soda, along with a bag of chips and you have your calorie fest. But you can go to Whole Foods and get organic vegan pies, cakes and candies, too.
