Brown's Chapel Lights Before RA DRB Tuesday

The Reston Association Design Review Board this week will hear plans for installation of lights for the lower baseball field at Browns' Chapel Park.

The proposal includes the installation of six approximately 60-foot tall poles with three light fixtures on each and the installation of nine 20-foot tall parking lot light fixtures outfitted with shoebox style and energy efficient LED lights.

Other elements of the proposal include running an underground power cable to the concession stand, downcast wall lighting on the concession stand, and the installation of a scoreboard on one of the ball field light poles.

The lights are slated to be installed field No. 1, the Little League field and the field closest to the Brown's Chapel building.

Affected residents received a letter from RA Parks and Recreation Director Larry Butler last week inviting them to attend the DRB meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Reston Association headquarters, 12001 Sunrise Valley Dr.

"The intention is to inform the public and the DRB and to determine what other information may be needed before presenting for a decision, possibly in March," Butler wrote to residents.

Butler said no decision will be made regarding the proposal and RA staff will present information regarding lighting the ball field as well as the lower portion of the parking lot.

Funds for the lights were approved during the 2012-2013 Reston Association budget development process. RA has allocated more than $282,000 for ball field capital improvements for 2013.
