BOS to Hear Child Care, Tysons Issues

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings on further development in Tysons and proposed changes to child care laws during its meeting Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Cityline Partners has proposed approximately 19 acres of development that would include office space, a hotel, retail locations and residential buildings south of Westpark Drive and near Westbranch Drive. The proposal – eight buildings as outlined in the plan – would total 2.5 million square feet of development within a half-mile of the Silver Line’s Tysons Corner Metro Station. The Board will also host a hearing on proposed changes to laws that will affect county childcare providers.

New and renewing providers will be required to undergo at least 16 hours of training in discipline and child development. Workers were previously required to complete 12 hours of training.

Providers will also be required to install landline telephones and carbon monoxide detectors in order to comply with new county fire safety codes.

The Board will not discuss changes to the number of children a home day care facility is allowed to have, a topic of hot debate over the summer. It is expected to come up next year.

The hearing on the changes is at 4 p.m.
