Worker Injured at Wiehle Metro Site

Crew member suffers possible broken leg.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue units were called to the construction site of the Wiehle Metro Station parking garage about 10:30 a.m. Thursday when a construction worker was injured at the site.

The worker, whose name was not disclosed, was hit when a piece of column material fell on him, suffering a possible broken leg, said senior construction manager Chris York.

The man was taken off the parking deck and taken to a hospital for evaluation of the possible broken leg.

The 2,300-space, seven-level parking garage at Wiehle Avenue and Sunset Hills Road is well underway and is expected to be completed next year. The Wiehle Station and the accompanying Reston Station development will be the end of Metro's Silver Line Phase 1 when it opens in December 2013.
