Fatal Shooting on Geddys Court

Fairfax County Police say incident appears to be domestic.

Update 11:13 a.m.: The woman shot Tuesday morning in Reston has died, officials said.

It is the second homicide in Reston this year. In June, Bharat Patel was beaten to death outside his apartment near Hunters Woods Village Center.

Original: Fairfax County Police are investigating a shooting Tuesday morning in the 11300 block of Geddys Court in Reston.

Police were called to the scene about 9:40 a.m. An adult woman had been shot, and police public information officer Bud Walker said the suspect is in custody.

Walker said at this time, the incident appears to be domestic in nature and the public is not in danger.

The identity of the victim and the suspect have not yet been released and it is not yet known how badly the woman was injured.

Patch will have more information on this story when it becomes available.

I’m sitting in my office at home on the Golf Course mid morning and I hear many sirens: continuous sirens for almost 30 minutes. After living in Reston for 35 years you instinctively know there is a bigger than usual problem. In years gone by you would discover what happened days later or at a Saturday baseball game. Not now. In less than one hour from the first alarm, Patch had the Breaking News story posted of a domestic shooting. The bigger story was relief: relief that the police had a suspect and the situation was under control. This is not the first time I have immediately gone to Patch to find out what is going on; almost in real time. Absolutely amazing journalism! Reston now has our own CNN. My question is does Karen Goff ever sleep? Does she have a digital communication chip implant? If you were here in 2001 on 9/11 when local news, emergency notifications, and cell phones all malfunctioned, you have an entirely new appreciation for local news that is not merely a recap of today’s robberies or politicians under investigation. Those unsettling days remind us of the value of current technology and people like Karen who use it professionally and for the greater benefit of the community.

The real question is, when will there be gun control?
Cynde Sears October 16, 2012 at 04:40 PM
Sarah, in Virginia, likely never. We are the host to the NRA. Unfortunately.

At what point do common sense and decency trump the NRA?
Cynde Sears October 16, 2012 at 05:32 PM
I don't know, Tammi. But when handguns are one of the leading causes of death for our young people, you'd think NRA members would be ashamed of themselves. Instead, they retrench, reload, and fire, and don't care who gets caught in the crossfire.

John - I agree! When I hear helicopters circling overhead, power goes out, whatever - I usually check Patch first then Facebook second! Much better than trying to remember to look in the newspaper the following day. As for the 'does she ever sleep?' comment, I saw she was still posting even when she was on vacation and had someone else covering for her. :)

Private ownership of firemarms is here to stay. It is settled law. If anything, court cases making their way up to SCOTUS are about undoing even the smallest restrictions. It's an integral part of who we are as Americans, both a people and a nation. You may or may not agree with it, but private ownership of guns will never be restricted. Progressives need to pick battles we can win. This isn't one of them.

Well stated. I would hate to outlaw cars and liquor because they cause way more deaths than guns.
