Riders Lane Fire Ruled Accidental

Investigators say blaze was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

Update, Tuesday 12:46 p.m.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue investigators say the fire at 11800 Riders Ln. on Monday was accidentally started with improperly discarded smoking materials in a second-floor bedroom.

Damage is estimated at $110,000, they said.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue battled a house fire on Riders Lane on Monday.

The call came in at 12:34 p.m., and firefighters were on the scene within two minutes. The fire started in a second-floor bedroom of home in the 11000 block of Riders.

 Firefighters had the blaze under control within 20 minutes. An elderly man was treated at the scene, but there were no other injuries.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire.
