Reston Shooting Report Unsubstantiated

Helicopter sweeping South Reston, but no evidence there was a crime.

Despite a television news report that there was shooting near South Lakes High School Tuesday afternoon, Fairfax County Police found no evidence of a crime.

Police spokesman T.J. Rogers said a call was made to police at 6 p.m. The caller said she may have heard gunshots at 4 p.m.

After patrols and the police helicopter were dispatched to the area, it was determined that the girl's story had inconsistencies, said Rogers. Students at South Lakes reported that people who were there for afterschool activities were told not to leave.

Rogers said there was no evidence that anything had taken place. The helicopter swept the area to look for "hotspots" just in case there was a victim, said Rogers. Police found none, he said.
