Reston Man, Woman Arrested for Stealing Shopping Carts in Frederick
Police believe Richard Henry Johnson and Haylee Melendez were planning to sell carts for scrap metal.
Frederick, Md. police arrested Richard Henry Johnson and Haylee Melendez of Reston Wednesday, Dec. 11 for the theft of several shopping carts.
According to the Frederick Police Department, officers were conducting a patrol beat check at the Country Hills Apartment Complex, located 1000 Heather Ridge Drive.
During the check they observed a pickup truck parked in front of a building. The truck contained numerous shopping carts in the bed.
Upon contact with the driver, later identified as Johnson, and passenger, later identified as Melendez, officers discovered the two subjects were in the process of stealing carts to sell for scrap metal.
According to the booking report, the two live on Olde Tiverton Circle in Reston.
Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center’s central booking unit were they are awaiting an appearance before a district court commissioner.
