Reston Man Charged With Assaulting Officer

Police responded to call of man threatening to harm himself.

A Reston man was charged with threatening to assault a police officer after a Sunday night incident.

Fairfax County Police were called at about 11:45 p.m. to the 2300 block of Freetown Court, where Jose M. Alvarez Reyes was threatening to harm himself with a knife. Alvarez Reyes stabbed himself, and then tried to assault one of the officers at the scene.

Alvarez was taken to a hospital for medical treatment and then to the Fairfax County Jail. The police officer was unharmed.
