Report: Cyclist Struck Near W&OD Trail Saturday

A cyclist was struck by a car at the intersection of W&OD Trail and Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston, the Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling reports.

A call made to the Fairfax County Police Department to confirm details of the reported crash was not immediately returned.

The cycling group wrote in a blog post Saturday that the rider was struck at about 5:45 p.m.  Saturday by a black SUV. She was reportedly thrown from her bicycle.

"The bike was in very bad condition as was the hood of the SUV," wrote Douglas Pew, who stated in an email to Patch that he saw the aftermath of the accident.

"My wife and I saw the scene of the accident after the emergency crew left and the police were investigating.  We saw her bike crumpled quite far away from the crossing.  She probably was thrown about 100 feet," Pew wrote.
