Fairfax County Police are looking for clues in an alleged abduction and assault Tuesday on the W & OD Trail on the Reston/Herndon border.
A 31-year-old woman told police she was attacked around 7 p.m. while walking along the W & OD Trail.
The woman entered the trail off of Reston Avenue and was near the overpass for Herndon Parkway when she noticed a man following her. Near Sunset Hills Road and the the woman was dragged off of the path into a wooded area, police public information officer Don Gotthardt said.
The victim struggled with her attacker, who eventually fled north onto a gravel horse trail. The victim did not require medical attention, police said.
Police describe the suspect as heavyset, about 25 years old. He was clean shaven and he had short, black hair. He was wearing glasses, a dark jacket and dark jeans.
Police urge anyone planning to walk along more secluded trails, away from common view, to consider walking with a friend. Do not wear ear buds or earphones, be aware of your surroundings, and tell someone where you are going before you leave.

I use the W&OD a lot, and even in the winter there are usually a decent number of people out at 7pm. She wasn't exactly in a low-traffic area either.
It's a shame this lady wasn't carrying a licensed personal protection firearm with a concealed permit and ended this scum bags career as a creep. I'm glad she's safe!
Robert Peer's comment is similar to how men in places like Saudi Arabia justify keeping women under lock and key in their country. Shameful on all accounts.
Now that I've maybe offended a few conservative, gun-toting, self-righteous white men and maybe women (?), and confused or overwhelmed the rest of you, I want to say: thank you Karen for waiting for adequate information, and to ask you to please help us come up with an adequate vocabulary for skin color that has bears some resemblance to the pale beige to almost but not black that most of us non-Albino folks are. We need real information not hurtful short-hand stereotypes.
Yes, by all means lets not identify the race of this criminal because it may be 'hurtful'. In the meanwhile he's free to drag our daughters, sisters, wives, mothers into the bushes at will. I don't think, however, that "Black" or "black" is accurate or particularly helpful, neither is white or caucasian, etc. esp without many more important identifiers like height, weight, facial hair/features, clothing, etc. And believe it or not, we likely agree that all brown and black people and/or white people are not evil. Not sure how to convince you that America is and has been a quite amazingly and shamelessly white-supremacist and brown/black-exploiting/punishing nation for its entire history except to ask you to look at its history for who has not been heard/valued--even if we white people are pretty nice, well-intentioned and reasonable people sometimes. Media outlets have long-established policies of covering up the color of crime--unless suspects are white. Seeing as an extremely disproportionate amount of crime is done by blacks and hispanics, liberals in the media want to do as much as possible to hide this from the public in order to push their usual anti-white, left-wing, Marxist politically correct agenda and try to deceive everyone. If the media is guilty of anything, they are guilty of covering all of this up by having in place official editorial policies which omit race when the suspects are non-white.
