National Night Out in Reston

Show your support at several community events.

Tuesday Aug. 2 is National Night Out, a night where communities nationwide show their support to work together against crime and drug use.

Last year, about 15,000 communities and 37 million people nationwide took part in the 28th annual National Night Out, according to the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).

Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2010.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Events will be taking place all over Fairfax County. In Reston, there are several places to get involved (contact individually for exact times):

will host a cookout for the whole community.

Deepwood Homeowners Association will have an ice cream social on Charterhouse Circle.

Reflections Home Association (13351 Parcher Avenue, Herndon) will have a pool party and ice cream social.

Generations Cluster Association will have a "lights on" to show its support and a neighborhood cookout.
