Large Tree Downs Power Lines, Cuts Electricity to More Than 4,000 in Reston

A large tree that downed power lines cut off power to more than 4,000 Reston residents early Thursday, according to a Dominion Power spokesman.

The tree shattered a power pole and downed power lines at the intersection of Lawyers Road and Soapstone Drive in Reston.

Most of the customers had their power back on by about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, he said, but as of about 1 p.m. Thursday, 14 homes were still without power, the spokesman noted.

Dominion expects to have their power on by late this afternoon, he noted.

Meanwhile traffic was diverted at Lawyers Road and Soapstone Drive in Reston on Thursday during repairs.
