Former Dunkin Donuts Employee Convicted in Murder of Boss

Abir Ali could get 18 years for second-degree murder.

Abir Ali, a former employee of the Dunkin Donuts at Hunters Woods Village Center in Reston, was convicted on Wednesday of murdering his former boss, Bahrat Patel.

Ali, then 20, laid in wait for Patel, then 40, with a stun gun in June 2012 in the 11900 block of Winterthur Lane, prosecutors said. The men argued, reportedly over a woman, and Patel was beaten to death by Ali.

Ali was arrested a few days later. Three days prior to the June 9, 2012 murder Ali had helped Bahrat and other owners open the new store in Reston.

A sentence of 18 years in prison was recommended by the jury for the second-degree murder conviction. Ali will be sentenced on Nov. 1.
