Fairfax County officials have charged a Reston resident with setting fire at his home on Monday.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Monday about  5 a.m. at 12371 Lima Lane.

Firefighters encountered a small fire in the basement of the ranch style home and quickly extinguished the fire, FCPD said.  Two occupants escaped the home after smelling smoke.  A smoke alarm activated shortly after the occupants smelled smoke.  An adult male was treated at the scene, but not transported.

Fire investigators charged Richard Yergovich, 35, of same address, with Virginia Fire Code 18.2-77, burning or destroying a dwelling or house, and 18.2-81, burning personal property of more than $200.  Both are Class 4 felonies. Yergovich is being held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

The occupants were permitted to reoccupy their home.
