Attic Fire Causes $110K Damage to Reston Home

Light too close to combustibles ignited blaze, officials said.

A fire Thursday night caused more than $100,000 of damage to a home on Midsummer Drive in Reston.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to the alarm at 10736 Midsummer Dr. They found heavy smoke and fire coming from the attic and roof of the one-story home, FCPS said.

The fire was brought under control in about 15 minutes. Working smoke alarms warned the residents, who were unharmed. Damage is estimated at $110,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A drop light in the attic too close to combustibles caused the fire.
