The Differences Between Boysko and Rust

Last night’s debate between Jennifer Boysko and Tom Rust continued to distinguish the stark differences between the two state delegate candidates for the 86th district.

Medicaid:

Boysko believes the Virginia Assembly should have immediately taken advantage of the Federal dollars for Medicaid expansion in order to that more Virginians could be covered by insurance.

Rust wants to study it more and set up a series of reforms that must first be met before Medicaid expansion can occur.

Guns:

Boysko wants to be a loud champion for reasonable gun control, no matter which House sub-committee she serves on.

Rust said he could not remember many of the gun-related votes he had taken over the years and blamed committees for not bringing gun legislation to the floor.

Women’s Health:

Boysko is pro-choice and believes women should be able to make their own personal decisions, in consult with their doctors and family members, as to whether or not to get a legal abortion under Roe V. Wade.

Rust voted for the TRAP bill which put unreasonable construction and personnel restrictions on abortion clinics, which will cause many of them to close down.

Schools:

Rust said underperforming schools should be taken over by the state.

Boysko believes underperforming schools should be provided with more assistance and resources in order to help them be more successful.

Boysko believes the Virginia Assembly should have applied for the Race to the Top grants that the Federal government offered.

Rust did not support the Race to the Top grants saying our SAT scores are already fine.
