Community Corner

Fairfax County NAACP

Fairfax County NAACP Open House

Over 60 people attended the Fairfax County NAACP Open House held on January 18, 2014.  The event was an opportunity for the Branch’s leaders to meet members of the community and politicians and to share their 2013 accomplishments and plans for 2014. We also want to thank the community for their support.

Shirley Ginwright, President of Fairfax County NAACP, welcomed attendees and shared the accomplishments of 2013 and plans for 2014. One major community accomplishment is the monthly contribution to the Power Pack Program (P3).  Each month the Branch prepares packages to supplement weekend meals for elementary school students. Open House attendees assisted in packaging over 70 lbs of food donated to Food for Others in Fairfax. The food bank then disseminates the packages to students across the county.

Ginwright stated that the Branch will continue to focus on several issues including Voter Suppression, Closing the Achievement Gap, and HIV/AIDS Awareness and Testing. The leadership will continue to build business and organization partnerships and community relationships.  For more information on Fairfax County NAACP go to www.fairfaxnaacp.org.
