I think it's pretty disgusting that they feel they need to hunt the deer - ever heard of relocation?!  I would be ashamed to be a resident of Reston if it comes to this.

Spay program? Do people have any idea how much that would cost? Veterinary surgical expertise and anesthesia aren't cheap. Why not hunt the deer and use the meat for soup kitchens? Turn it into jerky and ship it to starving populations overseas?

Just to claify: Each of the methods I listed has its pros and cons, including financial considerations. I just do not know of any other alternatives. Without control in some form, the deer population will continue to grow, increasing the likelihood of defoliation of landscaping and natural areas, encounters with automobiles, deterioraton of overall deer health, and potentially starvation of the deer themselves. I personally like seeing deer--in the proper places and in proper numbers.

the optimum word here is control not eradicate…you are correct..there are too many that will die a more cruel death if wildlife authorities don't take action and have a controlled hunt by experts...
