Friends Remember Reston Pioneer Bill Nicoson

Memorial service honors one of Reston's longest and most-involved residents.

Longtime Restonians gathered at St. Anne's Episcopal Church last weekend to honor Bill Nicoson, a Reston resident for four decades who served in many high-profile community roles.

Nicoson died in July at age 81. Read the obituary here.

Friends called Nicoson, a “true renaissance man” at the memorial service Oct. 19.

“It is painful to lose not just a friend, but one of the weavers of the fabric of our community,” Charles Veatch, another of Reston’s first citizens who worked with Reston founder Robert E. Simon in the original development of the community, said the service.

Nicoson was the former publisher of the Reston Connection, a former Reston Association Board member and a 2002 “Best of Reston” award winner.
