Fruit Flies?

If you are buying fresh fruit this time of year, you most likely are experiencing an infestation of fruit flies in your kitchen. I am guilty of leaving a cantaloupe on the counter too long or leaving my compost clippings on the counter over night. (just ask my husband!)

I did a search last year due to the HUGE infestation of fruit flies in our house. Here are a few solutions of how to control this in Your House.

1. Fruit Flies are absolutely drawn to apple cider vinegar. Put some in a small bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, poke some holes in the plastic. The critters will get in and drown. (it worked w/in 5 minutes when I tried it today! Within one hour, I took the attached photo.)

2. Combine 1 pint milk, 1/4 lb raw sugar and 2 ounces ground pepper in a saucepan and simmer for 8-10 minutes. Pour it in a shallow dish and watch the flies attack and consequently suffocate.

3. Spray the house with diluted lemongrass oil. Just 10 drops of oil works well with 2 ounces of hot water. This can kill not only fruit flies but also spiders, ants and other creepy crawlers.

4. Or you can practice your eye/hand coordination by trying to smash them with your hands as they fly around your kitchen.

Good luck! Soon, you too can be fruit fly free!!
