Wiehle Avenue Metro: Early Birds May Save Dollars

The "sale" is to encourage bicyclists to use the station.

The Wiehle Avenue Metro Station, which isn't scheduled to open for months, may already be holding a sale.

The Fairfax Board of Supervisors will vote Tuesday on whether to offer discounts for those signing up early to use the county's first enclosed, secure bicycle parking facility, the Washington Business Journal reports.

The county's Department of Transportation has been "exploring marketing strategies to encourage facility users to bike and walk to this station," according to a staff report. "One idea that staff would like to pursue is a reduced rate for early subscribers/members who purchase their subscriptions before March 1, 2014."

The Business Journal reports that the vote will on a proposal to cut the price for an annual membership for early registrants from $75 to $45, or $75 for two years. Applications received after March 1 would be charged the full membership.

The Silver Line's Phase 1, which will run from Tysons Corner to Reston's Wiehle Avenue, is slated to open in December.
